services

major editorial
This type of work approaches an entire document, sometimes before it has been written. I meet with clients to develop ideas, create an outline, and craft a process for the creation of the document. (I can write the document as well, if you like.)

copyediting
This type of editing occurs at the paragraph and sentence levels. I work with the client to make suggestions: move this paragraph, correct this awkward phrase, clarify your meaning here, etc. Alternatively, I can blaze through the copy on my own and return it in a tightly composed, grammatically exact package.

Clients choose this type of editing when they have a document whose structure is already in place.

proofreading
At this stage, I don’t fool much with the copy. Instead, I scan for errors in grammar, usage, and mechanics and correct them. Standard practice for proofreading requires at least three reads through the text, so it’s an intense process that can take some time.
